The Client & Context
GrubTech is a premier cloud kitchen and restaurant operating platform founded in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The platform unifies high-volume online food ordering, kitchen display systems (KDS), point-of-sale (POS) hardware, and automated inventory management into a single operational hub.
As GrubTech rapidly expanded across the UAE and the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, the company needed to integrate quickly with multiple national and global food delivery channels (such as Talabat, Deliveroo, Careem, and Jahez), while maintaining 99.99% uptime for busy restaurants.
The Challenge: High Complexity Under Tight Deadlines
Food delivery platforms handle thousands of concurrent orders every hour. Each regional aggregator maintains its own API standards, webhooks, error codes, and order status cycles. Building reliable, bidirectional integrations introduced significant technical and operational hurdles:
- Evolving specifications and minimal requirement clarity: The engineering team had to interpret third-party API variations and edge cases while maintaining backward compatibility.
- Tight time-to-market pressure: Commercial partnerships in the Gulf region depended on delivering integrations quickly so restaurant partners could go live on schedule.
- Hiring bottlenecks: Sourcing and onboarding senior in-house developers locally in Dubai would have taken 8 to 12 weeks, which was too slow for their market commitments.
